First, Happy New Year to everyone!
Next, Congrats to all the early action applicants who were admitted to Clark!
Shout out to Leah and Eli Simonson who are the siblings of one of my best friends at Clark who were both accepted early action.
Last New Years Eve, I had friends from Clark and home come to my house to ring in the New Year, however this year I was out of the country for two weeks and just got back at 8pm on December 31. I was so tired from jetlag, but I managed to stay up until midnight.
Usually the new year is a time when people make resolutions or goals, but even if you break your resolution shortly after you make it, don’t worry, you can start whenever you want.
Write down your goals and know that you can start any day. It doesn’t have to be the first of the month or a Monday. You can wake up on any given day and decide today is the day.
On a random day last semester I decided that I wanted to start doing some new things. I took out my notebook and wrote them down. Some of them I had already started and wanted to do more of and some of the things I had never done before and wanted to start. They were small things like paint more. Since coming to college I feel like I have really let my artistic side go a little bit. With so many things to do taking time out to paint has never seemed to fit in the daily schedule, but it really relaxes me, so even if I can only do it once a month, it’s a start. I am also taking an acting class, which I’m sure I will talk about in a blog post sometime next semester. It’s something I would have never considered doing, but I’m really excited about it.
In my senior year write up in high school, I said, “It’s never to late to do what you love or love what you do.” I am a firm believer that if you want to start a new career when you’re 40 years old, you should. If you want to go back to school or quit your job and travel, do it. What better time than now?
For the Class of 2017, this year is going to have a lot of endings, but even more beginnings. You will finish high school, finish living at home, finish living in the environment you have been comfortable in for so long and start living some of the best years of your life. You will begin college, begin fully taking care of yourself, begin meeting a lot of new people, and living in a different atmosphere. You will begin to be scared, but also begin to realize that the feeling usually ends up taking you to great places.
Happy Beginnings Everyone! But remember that you can start whenever you want.
