Living at Clark: Why Clark is my Home 3/4
Part of what makes Clark University “home” is the independence and dependence I have here. I have for a long time now worked for my own money and mostly bought what I want, so that’s not so different. Really, I’ve been adult-like for almost 4 years now and I can’t quite explain why being an adult away from Boulder is so different; but it is.
Going to the Emergency Room alone, making sure I have what I need when I need it, keeping track of my finances and making sure I have enough money, having my own debt, and making my own decisions and taking the consequences as they come.
It’s not even that I do these things “alone”. I really don’t. I still have help from my parents when they can, my friends go food shopping and clothes shopping with me, it’s the autonomy of it all. It’s knowing that it is up to me to make the decisions and to be where I need to be when I need to be there.
Honestly, it’s even living on my own and away from my parents. I miss my house, my pets, and my friends. However, knowing that I can go back and visit on short breaks makes it all the better.
I think some day that I will want to live in Boulder or Denver again, but the more time I spend in the east the more time I want to stay.
